Windows Registry is the database used to store configurations, settings and options for Microsoft Windows systems. The database has a hierarchical structure.

The registry contains set-up for components of low-level operating systems and the applications based on that platform. Registry is used by device drivers, the kernels, SAM, user interface, services and all the third party software.

The Windows Registry was first launched in the market with Windows 3.1 to store important configuration information for COM-based components.

The use of registry was inflated with the launch of Windows 95 and Windows NT so as to organize the surplus of INI files per program, which had been used earlier to amass settings of configuration for Windows programs.

The Registry includes two basic elements values and keys.

She broached the idea of charging users a ‘micro- payment’ for usage of iPlayer to watch previously aired TV shows. The idea has the backing of parent company Fremantle, which has gone so far as to conduct viability surveys for this concept.

Industry sources indicate support for the idea too, as TV advertising revenues spiral down with the advent of internet-based TV wherein viewers can watch programmes at a time of their choosing. The popularity of this type of service has also grown since the advent of mobile broadband services and laptop deals that allow people to access the internet at any time of the day from anywhere they want.

Fortunately, for users, the BBC has clearly stated its refusal to charge for iPlayer content as of now. This refusal comes even as Fremantle research suggests that consumers might be willing to pay up to £2 for specific programmes. The BBC clarified that all charges have been incorporated into the cost of the iPlayer, and accepting the pay-per-view concept would translate into double charge for consumers.
