Golden Rules of Niche Marketing

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

There are still thousands of Niches where pockets of opportunities exist, but to fill these certain Golden rules are a vital part of succesful Niche Marketing.

WIIFM – What’s In It For Me, is probably the most important rule. Whether the purpose of visiting a website is to access information or to buy a product/service, the visitor always has WIIFM in the forefront.

Look at your own areas of interest first. It is much easier to create information, a product or a service in ones own of interest. This does not mean that a new area of interest cannot be learnt.

Become an EXPERT in the specific area by providing valuable information in the area of interest. Remember WIIFM, because the visitor to the website needs to have a high level of comfort and trust. The best way to becoming an expert is to become Passionate about the area of interest.

To create comfort and trust always under-promise and over-deliver. Remember visitors will NOT part with their hard earned cash for anything without substance. One method which has been successful for centuries is to give something of value, away as a Free Gift. Everyone wants something for free.

If it is feasible, build in a Money Back Gaurantee. Again this creates a high level of comfort and trust. The longer the gaurantee the easier the sale. 90 days money back gaurantee is better than 30 days. Make sure that the money back gaurantee is not just an idle promise, but something that can be carried through.

The product must have a USP – Unique Selling Proposition. It must be unique to you and MUST differentiate from other products. Otherwise the perception of an Expert will not exist and over time visitors will quickly lose interest.

The ultimate aim should be to get the visitors email address. By having a powerful USP combined with WIIFM and all the other rules mentioned above the visitors will be more than willing to give the email address. These email address will become your biggest asset from which fortunes can be made.

Here is an interesting story. Hotmail was created by someone offering a free email account, which became the largest list of free emails globally. Bill Gates/Microsoft bought out Hotmail for a reported $300 million. Not bad for something that was given away for free.

Recently, I came across a tutorial course of an e-book and a set of videos which outlined a step-by-step process to ultimately achieve success in Internet Marketing. It’s a complete course creating a business model, searching for a “Niche”, setting up a website to collecting payment from prospective buyers.

All the ingredients necessary to create an Internet Marketing feast are available through the e-book/videos tutorial outlining the whole process necessary to run an online business, is set out in a methodical, easy to follow manner. You’ll be able to:

* Research for ideas

* Create INFO products based on the ideas with your own USP

* Create your own website

* Set up a Merchant account to collect the payment

* And a lot more besides, too numerous to mention

Wish you all the PROSPERITY

Content Management Systems (CMS)

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Content Management? What’s that you may ask – especially when you are already saturated with HTML, DHTML, PHP, ASP and the lot.

Content Management is basically a system that automates most of what you do manually on-line without ever opening up your HTML editor !

Once you have a Content Management System in place, you can publish articles, delete or edit content, manage passwords, give administrative access, put up links, photos and manage a complete website without ever knowing the meaning of HTML. Basically, if you can click a mouse you can manage even a site like Amazon. Practically all e-commerce enabled websites with shopping carts etc., have Content Management Systems in place. Access to Content Management is by a password protected administrative panel.

The biggest advantage of a Content Management System is that you can operate it from a remote location. Its just like checking your email on Yahoo or Hotmail with the only requirement being access to the Internet. For instance, say you are based in the US, you can actually edit your website while at a coffee bar in New Zealand. So if you have a successful affiliate website, you can be literally touring the world, and occasionally peeping into your webiste just to see how many sales you’ve made.

The disadvantage of having a Content Management System is that it allows very little structural modifications once the website is up and running. This is fine if you are a web-design expert but if you have got your website designed professionally that entails major revisions to the website which will cost you a lot. Web design companies generally fleece their clients on modifications and that’s why major companies have their own IT departments manage their corporate websites.

You now have a broader perspective on what options you have in managing your website should you decide to migrate to a higher level of web management.

Allergies to Your Cat or Dog? Think Again It May Be Your Cleaners

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Process of elimination is the best way to solve allergies, especially if you have loving pets around.

Living with 9 cats and one dog all my family members were not prone to allergies, possible the minor itching of the eye from petting the cat, but that was solved by washing ones hands.

One evening my husband had this terrible sneezing attack and his body started to itch as well. We’ll Poor Hilda our grey tabby cat was getting the evil eye from my husband. I knew that her days were numbered on our bed. Eventually my husband sneezed himself to sleep with a little help from the over the counter allergy medicine.

The next day I started the process of elimination and checked all the cleaners to see what was in them and found a high content of perfume in the clothes detergent my husband had bought on sale. I immediately went out and bought a perfume free detergent and washed all the clothes and sheets with that. In a matter of a few days the allergies stop. Hilda was back on our bed purring away. So please check out the perfume content in all your cleaners and detergents before finding new homes for your precious pets.

Happy Cleaning

Everyday Ways to Care for Your Hair

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Health, strength and beauty of hair depends primarily on its nerve vigor and the good circulation of the oily scalp secretion which gives it gloss and luster. Beauty is not so much a matter of color where hair is concerned. If your hair has a fine glow, a rich sheen, is thick and long, it will be beautiful irrespective of its pigmentation. Hair often makes an otherwise plain person beautiful. And practically every woman, if she cares to make the effort, may have beautiful hair.

SOME HAIR HINTS

If you have the least suspicion of a curl in your hair, brushing around rather than straight will
bring it out. Do not worry if you shed your hair. It is natural for the hair to shed and to keep right on growing in again. Only see to it that the ingrowth is equal to the loss by shedding.

No young girl should use a rat. Metal combs should be tabooed. Keep the hairbrush you use for
dandruff stiff, the “polishing” brush may be softer. Use a hair net that matches your own hair color, and do not get too small a one. Remove snarls and tangles in the hair gently, with fingers, before brushing. The three-weekly or monthly shampoo is a good rule. If you wash your hair too often, it will turn dry and brittle and change color.

The hair should never be worn “done up” constantly. This is injurious because every part of the hair should have frequent air and sun baths. For normal shampoo employ Castile, tar or vegetable soaps, and Green soap for oily hair. A good egg shampoo may be made of an egg, thoroughly beaten, one tablespoon alcohol, four ounces bay rum, a pinch of borax, and four ounces of Castile
soap mixed in a pint of hot water, to be used when cool.

Hair that is blonde or ruddy, as well as gray hair, may be washed with Castile soap jelly plus
a quarter-teaspoonful of borax. Always comb and brush thoroughly, with finger-tip massage. After
shampooing is the best time for scalp massage, hair pulling and skin loosening.

DRY SHAMPOO AND SCALP MASSAGE

The scalp and hair should be cleansed between shampoos. For this purpose the “dry shampoo” is
necessary. It is actually a form of scalp massage. Preparations of orris, corn meal and other dry
shampoo powders are not recommended. They stick, and it is hard to get them out of the hair. A vigorous rubbing of the scalp after the hair has been parted, using a small piece of muslin over the tip of the finger, is best. Hot and cold applications are good, with or without shampoo, especially if the hair is falling. Remember that the hair should not be “hot-air” dried. The hot-air cone used for the purpose in hairdressing establishments destroys
the hair. Human hair should always be dried by hand.

Scalp massage makes the hair grow and prevents many hair troubles. A five-minute finger-tip mas-
sage, night and morning, is the one ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. The electrical massage by a professional (after a shampoo), the violet ray, and the rubber-disk vibrator are all excellent for the hair. They strengthen and stimulate.

HAIR TONICS

Massage is the first and best hair tonic. Though a good scalp lotion may stimulate circulation, massage always does so more directly. In general it will be wise to remember that tonics are meant for specific purposes of cure for hair disorders, rather than for common use. A little refined beef marrow rubbed gently into the hair roots is a good natural tonic (though an old-fashioned one) and together with plenty of fresh air and sunshine, does more for the hair than all the compounded tonics and “restorers” marketed. Every woman can keep her hair in good condition if she chooses to. If she cannot give it attention in the morning she shoulcf
do so at night.

HAIR TROUBLES

Most hair troubles could be prevented in the start by ordinary good care of the hair, and the
maintenance of the state of general good health. Of course, various diseases affect the hair: fever dries it out and makes it fall; syphilis and other sex diseases poison and destroy it. Some skin diseases have the same effect. In general, if you are healthy, broadly speaking, your hair will be healthy too.

DandruffWhat we have to deal with in dandruff is a horny layer cast off by the scalp. This layer
thickens, closes the pores, diminishes the hair’s oil supply, and prevents the perspiration glands from getting rid of waste. Soon the hair loses tone and color, and is covered with whitish powder. Then it starts to itch and fall. In an advanced state of the disease, the hair falls out, and blood crusts form on the scalp as a result of scratching. Digestive disorders, toxic elements in the blood or local irritation may cause dandruff, and it is communicable.

Daily care of the scalp, massage and brushing, if persisted in when the disorder first appears, are very beneficial. The crude oil massage of the scalp, not the hair, is excellent and often effects a cure. A massage every night, using vaseline or olive oil, together with repeated shampoos, also helps to do away with dandruff. Although pomades in general should be avoided, a pomade with a precipitated sulphur base, mixed with glycerine, rose-water, lanoline, and soap, or a sulphur ointment or cream kills the dandruff germ.

There is an “oily dandruff,” also, though the disease is most commonly a dry scalp one. Shampoo
with tincture of Green soap should cure this type of the disease in about a week’s time. If you have dandruff, observe a regular diet, and stick as much as possible to milk and fresh fruit.

Falling Hair.An acid condition of the blood encourages the hair to fall. Correct it and you will
have removed the cause of your complaint. The use of the violet ray and the vibrator, which hold
down the tendency to an oily scalp, is also valuable for hair treatment in this connection. So, too, are hot and cold applications.

HAIR DISEASES WHICH SHOULD NOT OCCUR

Favus, the development of yellow scalp crusts, accompanied by severe itching, bald spots and a
musty odor, is a dirt disease, hence inexcusable in a woman, unless as a result of infection. To remove it the scalp must be soaked in olive oil for a few days, carbolic acid being mixed with it in a weak solution, the hair pulled out of the most infected areas, the crusts removed, and the whole scalp shampooed with an antiseptic soap.

Ringworm is usually a gift of those evil things, the “common property” comb and brush, or the
patent hair clipper. Rubbing with sulphur ointment, washing with bichloride soap, or painting
with iodine, to precede the application of a cleansing ointment, is the treatment. It is dangerous since it may result in baldness.

Head lice (which may be cured by saturating the hair with kerosene or crude petroleum at night,
wrapping in a towel to retain fumes, and following by antiseptic soap shampoo) is a most disgusting trouble, and unless communicated cannot occur except as a result of neglect and uncleanliness. The possibility of contagion constitutes the menace of all
three of these diseases.

The Most Misused Tool in Meetings

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Lisa came to the meeting ready to participate. She had some specific ideas that she wanted to share – ideas that she thought would help the team move forward on the problem they were discussing. The meeting got off to a good start and everyone was involved in the discussion. At what seemed like the appropriate time, Lisa shared her idea.

People didn’t seem as enthused about it as she thought they might. So she talked a bit more about it, hoping they would understand. Some other people didn’t think her idea was quite on track with the discussion, but some others became more interested and asked questions about her idea and the issues that would surround it if it were implemented.

Soon the facilitator suggested that Lisa’s idea was a good one, but that she was going to put her idea in the Issue Bin – so that we could get on with the meeting agenda – and that the group could get back to her idea later.

Lisa’s heart sank. She’d seen this happen before. In the last company she worked for they called this Issue Bin thing a Parking Lot. Once your idea got put in the Parking Lot, it was gone forever. In fact, in her mind she’d quit calling it a Parking Lot and started calling it the Black Hole – a place where ideas go, never to be seen again. . .

The Tool

In case you’ve never been to a meeting where an Issue Bin or a Parking Lot is used, let me explain. Often groups or individuals will get off track – a new topic will come up or an idea will begin to be discussed that isn’t the main focus of the meeting, or might be better discussed later on. At that point whoever is facilitating the meeting would suggest that this topic or issue be placed in the Issue Bin. They would then go to a chart on the wall labeled Issue Bin and write a brief description of the issue so that the idea won’t be lost. In other words, the goal of this tool is to keep a group on track with their agenda.

Beyond that though, the Issue Bin is a way to help a group “hold that thought” so that the idea isn’t lost – and can be discussed later when the time is right.

The Misuse

The most common misuse of this valuable tool is exactly what Lisa had experienced in her previous company. Facilitators put items into the Issue Bin or Parking Lot with no real plan to revisit them – they are using the Bin as a place to put stuff they don’t really want to talk about at all.

Or, facilitators do have good intentions, but when the meeting runs long (how many meetings have you been to that didn’t go long?), and time is short, the Issue Bin item(s) get lost in the rush to finish the meeting.

So, regardless of the intention or best-laid plans of the facilitator, the Parking Lot becomes a sham and a manipulation, never achieving the desired result of capturing the idea and holding it for later exploration.

Given this, it is no surprise that the Lisa and people with a similar experience bring up their item again and again – because they are afraid the idea will get lost.

The Best Use

Think of an Issue Bin as TiVo for your meetings. If you have a TiVo connected to your TV you can easily record any television show and watch it later. This allows you to watch the show at a time more convenient for you and, much to the disappointment of advertisers, skip through the commercials easily so that the overall time spent in watching the show is reduced.

Just like TiVo, a well used Issue Bin allows you “timeshift” an issue or idea to discuss it at the time most convenient or productive for the team. And just like TiVo may reduce your watching time, often when the issue is held for later, the ideas and actions discussed in the interim may reduce the amount of time or energy required to effectively discuss or explore the issue.

It isn’t hard to use an Issue Bin effectively. It just requires a process and a bit of discipline.

1. Make sure that everyone knows the function of the Issue Bin.

2. Capture items to the Issue Bin as appropriate.

3. Schedule time in the agenda (typically 2-3 minutes is all that is required) to review the Issues near the end of the meeting. This review should answer three questions:

Is this still an issue (or has it been resolved since it was placed in the Bin?)

Is there an action item that can be created from this issue? If so, what is it?

Is this a topic that needs to be on a future meeting agenda?
4. Don’t leave the Issue Bin until something is done with each issue. If nothing can be done with it at this time, consider saving the issue and having it reside on the Issue Bin at the start of your next meeting.

The bottom line? Do something with every one of them! Taking this simple approach to using this tool will make your meetings run more productively and make sure that all of the best ideas and issues are both raised and considered.

Just like any tool, it is wonderfully valuable when used correctly. And just like any other tool, it can be damaging and counterproductive when it isn’t.

Back to Lisa

Lisa was pleased at the end of the meeting that the facilitator asked the group what they should do with Lisa’s idea. The group decided it warranted more discussion – they encouraged Lisa to work on some aspects of the idea a bit and it was agreed that this would be the first agenda topic for the next meeting.

From that day forward, Lisa felt more comfortable contributing to the team – and she now knew that the Issue Bin or Parking Lot or whatever you want to call it, didn’t have to be a Black Hole – that it could be a useful tool for any meeting.

Your Dog’s Health – The Basics Every Pet Owner Should Know

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

Your dog is probably stronger and healthier than most humans that you know. However, by taking him from his natural environment, where only the strongest survive, to the artificial one in which most pet dogs live, we have exposed him to an entirely new set of dangers which their instincts are not designed to cope with.

A dog’s health is influenced by the genes inherited from his parents and by the care given to his mother during the prenatal period, as well as to the puppy during his first 2 or 3 months of life. A puppy, whose mother was properly cared for during pregnancy, will be more able to handle the hazards of growing up.

The majority of dogs lead perfectly healthy, normal lives. They overcome occasional skin rashes, chills, and upset stomachs, recover from cuts and bruises with ordinary care, sensible first aid when necessary, and professional diagnosis and treatment of serious ailments. Chances are that if you give you dog a normal diet, a healthy home environment, a well balanced life, you will only need to see the vet for check-ups and vaccinations.

A healthy dog’s temperature, taken rectally when he is rested, is about 101.2 degrees in an adult dog, 102 in small breeds, and 102.5 in a puppy. It can fluctuate one way or the other, being lower in the morning and higher in the late afternoon. Long-coated breeds have a slightly higher normal temperature than short-coated ones. His pulse is taken at the femoral artery, high inside the thigh. There is no normal pulse rate for dogs. It can range from 120 beats per minute in a young puppy, to 70 or 80 in an older dog. Count the beats during 30 seconds and multiply by 2. Normal respiration ranges from 20 or 30 respirations per minute for a puppy to 16 per minute in an older dog.

A normal eye is bright and clear, although the lens becomes pale blue as he ages. His nose is moist and cool most of the time, but a dry, warm nose doesn’t always mean a fever or illness. His tail wags and he carries himself normally. His coat is shiny and sheds normally. He eats his meals without gulping compulsively and without being coaxed, drinks a normal amount of water after meals and exercise, and more during hot weather. His bowel movements are regular and well-formed, his urine is clear and both process’s are painless. As a puppy he sleeps most of the time, but as an adult only about half the time, and he is generally friendly, alert, and inquisitive.

A sick or ailing dog will have a temperature over 102 degrees, a sign of fever, or under a 100, a sign of weakness. If it does not return to normal within 24 hours, call the vet. If his temperature is as low as 99, or as high as 104, call the vet immediately. His pulse may be weak or irregular, his respiration at rest may be irregular or labored, panting or weak. His eye may appear dull, red or yellow with a sticky discharge. His nose may be dry and hot, also with a discharge.

His tail may be immobile, carried stiffly or between the legs, his coat may be dry and stand up when it should lay flat, the skin may be itchy and flaky and there may be bald spots, or red patches. He may eat with a good appetite but usually doesn’t want food at all, and is usually reluctant to swallow any water. His bowel movements may be abnormal in form or color, have a bad odor, and contain blood or mucus, or he may be constipated with no movement at all. The urine may be dark, cloudy, or painfully produced.

He may sleep all of the time and hide in dark corners; his breath may have a bad odor and be labored. He may show very obvious symptoms of disorder such as swellings, protuberances, lameness, pain, prolonged wheezing or coughing, and unusual sensitivity in some part of his body. His overall general behavior will be lethargic and unresponsive when he is normally friendly and active, or nervous and excitable when he is the quite type with snapping or snarling for no apparent reason.

The symptoms offered here which are fairly obvious and not too far from our own human symptoms, (good and bad). It’s the severity of the symptoms for an ailing dog that will determine whether you should call the vet. Far sighted dog and cat owners select a veterinarian as soon as they become a pet parent, for sooner or later they get sick to some degree, and your chances of prompt attention are better if the vet already knows your pet.
